Canberra United are excited to announce that American Katie Stengel will #GoGreen and sign with the club for the 2019/20 Westfield W-League season.

Stengel joins Canberra United on a one-year loan deal from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Utah Royals FC.

The American forward has experience playing across the globe including in Europe, and has previously enjoyed stints with the Western Sydney Wanderers and Newcastle Jets in Australia.

Stengel finished her solo campaign with the Wanderers as the club’s leading goal scorer, before finishing second in the Golden Boot race with the Jets in Season 10 of the Westfield W-League.

After arriving in the nation’s capital last week, Stengel said she is looking forward to working with Canberra United and Head Coach Heather Garriock.

“I’m really excited for the upcoming Westfield W-League season,” Stengel said.

“Canberra has been a dangerous side for years, Heather told me this is the place to be and I’m looking forward to working with her and the team this year.”

Garriock admits she’s delighted Stengel made the decision to join Canberra in 2019/20.

“Having coached against Katie in the Westfield W-League and seeing what she’s capable of, I’m very glad she’s on our roster this year,” Garriock said.

“Katie has just come off a fantastic season with the Utah Royals and her goal scoring record in all competitions speaks for itself.

“She’s very strong on the ball and is both left and right footed and I think our fans are going to enjoy watching her this season.”

Stengel joins Norwegian star Elise Thorsnes as the second international player to sign with Canberra United for the upcoming season.

If you want to #GoGreen with our overseas contingent, Season 12 memberships are now on sale to the public on the Canberra United website. Be sure to sign up in time for our Round One clash with Perth Glory at McKellar Park on Sunday, 17thNovember.
