Canberra United can today confirm the signing of Norwegian international and Avaldsnes star Elise Thorsnes on loan for the remainder of Westfield W-League Season 10.

Thorsnes has played over 100 times for the Norwegian national team in a glittering career, and arrived in Australia this week.

Her arrival comes just two days after scoring the match winning goal in the Norwegian Cup Final for her club side as they finished 1-0 winners.

Thorsnes’ signing only serves to improve a side that has now won its last two matches and moved into the top four with a 2-1 come from behind win over the Newcastle Jets on Sunday afternoon.

Canberra United Head Coach Heather Garriock said it was great to finally have Thorsnes in the country as United head into a tough matchup against Perth without Matildas representatives Michelle Heyman and Ellie Carpenter.

“It is brilliant to have Elise now with us at Canberra United,” Garriock said.

“She has had a brilliant career with Norway and also her club teams, and she will add so much to what we already have here at United.”

The 29-year old has scored well over 100 goals at club level and Garriock spoke of her excitement for the experienced Thorsnes to slot straight into the team.

“Elise is the calibre of player where she can make an immediate impact in Canberra.”

“We have two of our best players away this weekend so for Elise to come in now is really just perfect timing, and I implore every Canberran to come out and maybe catch a glimpse of her this weekend.”
