It says a lot about the talent of Ellie Carpenter that she is already a regular member of the Westfield Matildas team at just 18 years of age.

And the teenage defender is showing no signs of slowing down after another excellent start to Westfield W-League campaign with Canberra United.

Carpenter’s eye-catching displays have earned her the November nomination for this season’s NAB Young Footballer of the Year award for the Westfield W-League.

The dashing right-back knows all about this accolade after being crowned as the winner last season.

And if the early indications are anything to go by, Carpenter could join current Caltex Socceroos keeper Mat Ryan as a two-time winner of the prestigious award for young players.

Carpenter’s stats make for impressive reading.

She has played all four games for Heather Garriock’s side so far this season, scoring one goal from her only shot on target.

Her nine chances created for teammates is the fifth-most in the Westfield W-League but three more than any other defender in the competition.

Carpenter’s defensive work and distribution has also been a feature of her performances.

She has amassed 17 recoveries during the first four rounds, while she’s been involved in 36 duels, and her 108 passes have come at an accuracy rate of 80%.

It’s those kinds of numbers that back-up the belief Carpenter is set for a long and successful career, and make her a worthy nomination for this season’s NAB Young Footballer of the Year award.
