Canberra United have signed Chilean superstar Maria Jose Rojas for the beginning of the Westfield W-League season.

Better known as ‘Cote’, the pacy striker is expected to line up for Chile against the Matildas in two November friendlies, but will first play alongside Matildas star Ellie Carpenter as United take on Melbourne City this Sunday at McKellar Park.

The Chilean international arrived in Australia this week and is expected to make an instant impact on Sunday in the home opener.

Cote is a household name in Chile after spending nearly 14 years in the Chilean National setup, and Heather Garriock hailed the impact the 30-year old could have for United.

“To sign another international of such high calibre is a big boost for us,” Garriock said.

“Cote is a proven star, has been in the Chile setup since 2004 and I’m excited for Australia to see just how talented a player we have signed.”

With her international league spanning across four countries and a 14-year international career Cote possesses experience in spades and will be ready to make an impact ahead of round one this weekend.

“I am excited to sign for Canberra United and I can’t wait to begin the season this weekend,” Cote said.

“I’d like to thank Canberra United, Heather and the team for the opportunity they are giving me.”

“I have heard many positives about this team both here and internationally and I am excited to be a part of the club.”
