Crofts and Foletta join Canberra United squad

Canberra United is delighted to announce the signings of Ashlie Crofts and Isabella Foletta for the 2020/21 Westfield W-League season.

Ashlie Crofts returns to Canberra United following her first Westfield W-League season, in which she scored on her starting debut for the club.

Crofts, who scored seven goals in 11 matches for Blacktown Spartans this NSW NPLW season, said she is looking to add to the nine games she has played for United.

“I’m really excited that a season is going ahead and to be back at Canberra United,” Crofts said. “I can’t wait to get stuck into it and get started. I am looking forward to getting to know the new girls and getting to know Vicki and her coaching style.

“I’m also pretty excited to play in front of the Canberra United fans, which was definitely a standout from last year, so I am excited to do that again.”

Crofts will be joined this season by Isabella Foletta, who signs with United after two seasons with Perth Glory.

Foletta, who played four games with Glory in her debut Westfield W-League season, only played one game last season due to a hip injury.

The 20-year-old Perth native played a dozen games in the backline for Northern Tigers FC in the 2020 NSW NPLW season, keeping four clean sheets. Foletta said she was excited for a new challenge at United.

“I am so excited about the new opportunity to work alongside Vicki and players that I haven’t played with before so I’m keen for a new challenge,” Foletta said.

“I have had a really great time with Glory for the past couple of years and I absolutely loved it, but I am ready for a change and a new opportunity.”

Head coach Vicki Linton said both signings are important additions to her squad.

“Ash is a goal-scoring forward and I am looking forward to seeing her to add value to the team in that area and to continue to develop her game in her second year for Canberra,” Linton said.

“Izzy joins us from Perth this season with two years of Westfield W-League experience. She is a fairly versatile player and has continued her development by playing in the Sydney NPL.

“It will be good to see her in training and see how she will fit into our style of play.”
