Canberra United came home with a pair of prizes from the annual ACT Sportstar Awards held on 30th November at the Tradies Club in Woden. Following the club-s unprecedented unbeaten run to the Westfield W-League title last season the club took out the Konica Minolta ACT Team of the Year whilst Head Coach Jitka Klimkova was named ACTSPORT ACT Coach of the Year.

The awards were a just recognition for outstanding performance in the national competition in 2012 and the club are proud to receive the accolade. Unfortunately with a 10am scheduled kick off for the highly anticipated Westfield W-League clash away to Sydney FC set for the following day, neither Klimkova nor the full squad could be present to collect their awards.

Canberra United CEO Heather Reid collected the ACTSPORT ACT Coach of the Year award on behalf of Klimkova with injured Canberra United player Grace Gill receiving the Konica Minolta ACT Team of the Year award for the squad.

“It-s great that both Jitka [Klimkova] and the team have been recognised for their outstanding efforts last season,” Reid said. “To collect both of these awards at this event shows just what winning the 2011/12 Westfield W-League title means to Canberra and its sporting community. On behalf of Jitka and the team I would like to thank those who nominated us and then voted for us to win the awards. It also great to have The Tradies Club group continuing their support of sport in the ACT by getting behind the awards. We are very happy this evening.”
