Foxtel Y-League | United look for first win against Wanderers

Canberra United’s Foxtel Y-League side returns to action this Saturday afternoon (23 November), looking for their first points of the season.

Ray Junna’s side will be hoping to put last Sunday’s loss behind them after they lost to a solid Central Coast Mariners side 3-1 at McKellar Park.

Despite the scoreline at the end of the match, head coach Ray Junna said his team took positives away from the game.

“It was a close game and we were in it,” Junna said. “We started off slow due to nerves but once we settled down and got into the game, we did really well.

“Some teams would drop their heads in the second half but we didn’t so hopefully we can carry that momentum into this afternoon.”

United will face strong competition in Western Sydney Wanderers, who had a bye to start their season. United will also be without experienced players Nikolau Udjur and Nicholas Faust, due to injury and work commitments respectively.

“They are two of our more experienced players but that gives an opportunity to two of the younger guys to come in and see what they are made of,” Junna said.

“It gives them an opportunity to put into practice what they are doing so well at training.”
