Westfield W-League Head Coach Heather Garriock will soon begin work with some of Canberra’s best female footballers as part of the Canberra United Winter program (CUW).

The aim of the CUW program is to provide additional elite training and matches  to female players identified in Canberra, and help to bridge the gap between the Canberra United Academy U/17 side and the Westfield W-League outfit.

As part of the program, Garriock will run elite training sessions for those in the program twice a week with a game every second week, working on their technical and tactical development throughout.

Garriock said she is looking forward to developing the players, and working with local clubs and coaches.

“This program will allow me to be involved year-round in Canberra with Women’s Football,” Garriock said.

“The opportunity is there for us to work with local clubs and coaches to improve the pathway, and help produce future home-grown Canberra United players.”

CUW will also give Garriock the chance to look at Canberra locals who could move into the Westfield W-League pre-season setup with her side as the season approaches.

Letters have been sent out to potential players in the coming week, and Garriock will continue to scout local competitions to bring players in throughout the program.
