USA international Kendall Fletcher is the third American to join the ranks for Season Six

USA international Kendall Fletcher is the third American to join the ranks for Canberra United-s Westfield W-league Season Six campaign having agreed to sign for the club. The defender/midfielder is no stranger to the national competition having enjoyed successful stints with Central Coast Mariners in Season One and, most recently, Melbourne Victory.

Fletcher, born in North Carolina, USA was a regular starter for the USA in age-grade teams over many years and has been capped at full international level once, playing in the 2009 Algarve Cup win over Norway in Portugal.

A solid presence in the back four, or as a defensive midfielder screening the back line, Fletcher has an eye for a pass, an awareness of the game that allows her to break up opposition attacks and a physical presence in the challenge. Her signing will bolster United in a crucial area of the field as well as offer a goal threat. Indeed, Fletcher has netted eight goals in 33 matches in the Westfield W-League, four each for the Mariners and Victory.

“Kendall is an excellent acquisition to the Canberra United ranks,” CEO Heather Reid commented. “Her ability is unquestioned and, having played in the competition before she is well acquainted with the conditions and style of football that is played in Australia meaning that she should be able to slot seamlessly into the United family.”

Fletcher joins United from a two-year stint with Vittsjo in the Damallsvenskan in Sweden where she completed 37 games and scored four goals and, subject to visa approval, she will be available for selection in the season opener on Saturday 9th November against Brisbane Roar in Queensland.
