American international Kendall Fletcher will return to Canberra United for the upcoming Westfield W-League season, becoming head coach Vicki Linton’s 15th signing.

Fletcher is no stranger to the Westfield W-League, having made 78 appearances and scored 18 goals in the competition across four different clubs.

Over three seasons, the midfielder made 34 appearances for Canberra United, scoring three goals, and was crowned Canberra United Players’ Player of the Year in the 2013/14 Westfield W-League season.

The North Carolina native, who has lived in Australia for the past five years, has one USA international appearance, representing her country in the 2009 Algarve Cup win over Norway in Portugal.

The 35-year-old, who played for Sydney University FC this season, said she was glad to be back at Canberra United.

“I absolutely love Canberra United,” Fletcher said. “I have really enjoyed my experiences with the club in the previous seasons I have played here. The idea of coming home to Canberra is a really sweet moment.

“The fan base in Canberra is fantastic and you feel so supported, which I think is a testament to the club and the culture the club has tried to cultivate.”

Canberra United head coach Vicki Linton, who coached Fletcher when she was at Melbourne Victory, said Fletcher’s experience would be invaluable to her squad.

“I am really pleased to sign Kendall to Canberra for this season,” Linton said.  “She is a player with a great deal of experience who brings a high level of professionalism to any team she is in.

“I know that the squad will benefit from the knowledge she has and I look forward to working with her again.”
