United to send Heather Garriock out on a high

Defender Lauren Keir says United are desperate to put on a strong performance at McKellar Park this Sunday afternoon (16 February) in what will be Heather Garriock’s last home game in charge.

Canberra United hasn’t played a Westfield W-Leauge match since their Australia Day loss to Melbourne Victory almost three weeks ago. While the bye and the Westfield Matildas break provided a few days off, Keir said the side is keen to finish the season off on a high.

“We have had two weeks off, so we are super keen to get back out there and finish strong against Adelaide United this weekend,” Keir said. “Having a bit of a break after a couple of disappointing losses gave us time to rebuild.

“We have been working on our mentality during training so if we do go down one-nil, we rebuild and refocus. Refocusing is a massive part of our game that we have been working on so hopefully we can show that this weekend.”

With Sunday turning out to be Heather Garriock’s last home match at McKellar Park, Keir said there is an added incentive to grab all three points.

“Heather has played a massive role in all of our careers, especially mine,” she said. “Hopefully we can play for H this weekend and put on a good performance for her.

“She has given so much to us and has put in 110 per cent into us so we want to do the same.

“All the girls are really hyped for this weekend’s game so hopefully we put on a good performance.”
