Local quartet sign for Canberra United

Canberra United can today confirm the signings of four Canberra youngsters to the squad for the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season.

Lauren Keir, Laura Hughes, Aoife Colvill and Maddy Whittall have been part of the squad during pre-season and help to round out Heather Garriock's squad ahead of round one.

Colvill secured the 2018 NPLW Capital Football Golden Boot with a massive 42-goal season for the Canberra United Academy, and Whittall was the top scorer last season with 32 for Belconnen United.

Hughes is no stranger to the Canberra United setup having being a part of the Academy for a number of years and featuring in the Westfield W-League squad during Season Nine, while Keir enjoyed another excellent season in the heart of defence for Belconnen United as they stormed to the local treble.

Head Coach Garriock praised the contribution of the youngsters through pre-season and said they had all earned their spot in the Season 11 squad.

“It's really exciting for us to have Lauren, Laura, Aoife and Maddy on board for this season,” Garriock said.

“It is so important that we have talented, local players coming through into our Canberra United team and each of these girls brings something unique to the squad.”

Colvill and teammate Karly Roestbakken will be unavailable for the round one clash with Melbourne City after travelling to Lebanon with the Westfield Young Matildas squad.

The two were selected in Gary Van Egmond’s Young Matildas squad that play in the AFC Women’s U/19 Championship – Qualifiers Round 1 from the 24th-28th October.
