Match Preview – Brisbane Roar vs Canberra United

CU vs Roar - Camila

After consecutive matches at Viking Park, Canberra United are set for their first away trip of the season, taking on Brisbane Roar at Dolphin Stadium on Thursday night.

The Roar are yet to win so far this season, having been forced to share the points in both of their opening rounds. Despite a star-studded frontline including Matilda Emily Gielnik, the Roar are yet to score a goal this season, however with Clare Polkinghorne in the heart of defence they also don’t look like making a habit of conceding many.

Last minute stunners have become the heart-stopping but ultimately match-winning way for Canberra United so far this season, but they will be looking to replace that trend by taking better advantage of chances early in the game.

With Michelle Heyman firing from all cylinders, backed up by the brilliance of Laura Hughes and Nicki Flannery, it is anyone’s guess as to who will put the ball in the back of the net this week.

Sally James did a great job of protecting her goal on Sunday, pulling off some fantastic saves in response a number of close calls put to her by Melbourne City. She will need to do the same again on Thursday, with Brisbane offering up a flurry of chances in their past two appearances.

With plenty of semi and grand final matches played between the two, the Brisbane Roar vs Canberra United matchup is always one to look forward to, and with 28 goals scored in matches across the past four seasons, expect lots of goals.
