Mrs. Claus took out the inaugural ‘Canberra United Cup- in an entertaining half-time mascot race at Deakin Stadium on Saturday afternoon which delighted the local children in attendance on a soggy day in Canberra.

In a race full of mixed characters who would have thought Mrs. Claus would bring home the win?

The Canberra United Leprechaun came close to winning the race in the end only to miss his shot into the open goal whilst Gymmy from Club Lime was tackled by Mrs. Claus to deny him a chance to finish it off and claim the honours.

Brumby Jack was victim to a bit of “hugging” from the Leprechaun which caused him to fall behind early on and suffer a hamstring strain that saw him bringing up the rear of the field!

The Monaro Panther and Kanga Cup Jillaroo lagged behind the others on a spongy surface but showed heart to finish the race. The mascots did take a bit of a pounding in a physically challenging 200 metre race but a huge congratulation goes out to Mrs Claus for starting off the early Christmas celebrations early!
