Norwegian International Elise Thorsnes is the second player to #GoGreen and sign with Canberra United for the 2019/20 Westfield W-League season.

With over 100 international appearances to her name, Thorsnes will bring a wealth of big-game experience to the nation’s capital as a Guest Player, and will be a senior figure in Heather Garriock’s Season 12 side.

Thorsnes made her debut for the Norway Women’s National Team in 2006, and has since competed in three FIFA Women’s World Cups in 2011, 2015 and most recently in 2019.

The 31-year-old striker said she is looking forward to returning to Canberra United after previously playing for the side in 2017/18.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to play in Australia again,” Thorsnes said.

“I had a great time in Canberra when I played two years ago and I can’t wait to return and play alongside some of my former teammates again.

“Having played football around the world, I’ll just be looking to contribute my experience to the squad and help some of the younger players develop.”

Thorsnes left her mark on the Westfield W-League two seasons ago, scoring six goals in just nine games, including a hat-trick against Adelaide United.

Canberra United Head Coach Heather Garriock says Thorsnes’ return will provide a huge boost to the squad.

“We are delighted Elise has agreed to terms as a Guest Player this season, her experience, power and versatility will boost our squad immensely,” Garriock said.

“The Canberra fans saw Elise’s quality on show two seasons ago, and one thing for sure is, she loves to score, so we’re very excited to have her back.”

Thorsnes becomes the second player with World Cup experience to sign with Canberra United for the upcoming season, after Westfield Matilda Karly Roestbakken re-signed with the club last week.

If you would like to #GoGreen with Elise and Karly, Canberra United memberships will be on sale in the coming weeks, and the 2019/20 Westfield W-League draw is also expected to be released soon. More information can be found on the Canberra United website.

While the Westfield W-League season is still a few weeks away, the Caltex Socceroos are just around the corner. Tickets are on sale for the Caltex Socceroos vs Nepal clash at GIO Stadium on Thursday, 10th October. For more information and to purchase your tickets, visit the Capital Football website.
