The People’s Sporting Champion Award presented by Canberra Milk is back and closing in two weeks!

And this year, we are nominating Ashleigh Sykes for the award.

Through 10 seasons of the Westfield W-League Sykes was one of the competition’s best strikers, winning the Golden Boot and Julie Dolan Medal as well as being a part of three Premierships and two Championships with Canberra United.

Since stepping down from a playing role though, Sykes’ off-field contribution has matched her scoring prowess as she has undertaken a role in Game Development at Capital Football.

Ash has helped bring along Powerchair Football in the ACT region, beginning with a come and try day next year and already with the goal to create a Canberra United Powerchair team.

Her work has also helped create and maintain a number of other programs to help Football reach more people than ever before, and we have nominated the Canberra United Powerchair team to receive the $5000 prize if Ash is the winner.

All that we ask is that you vote for Ash as often as you can heading towards the November 5th deadline using the form linked at the bottom of this article.

What makes this person your sporting champion?

Ash’s extensive on-field achievements helped Canberra United become a W-League force, and she has given back to football through her work in Game development, and particularly the powerchair program.

Explain why you are nominating this organisation (Canberra United Powerchair)?

Football is an inclusive sport, and the development of a powerchair program and team broadens that further. The money from this will enable Powerchair to reach and include more participants.
