Tough Day at the Office for Canberra United

Canberra United goes down to Sydney FC 4-0

Canberra United has suffered a 4-0 loss at the hands of an in-form Sydney FC outfit in Round 7 of the Westfield W-League season.

Michelle Heyman had two good chances early on but they were denied by Mathyssen-Whyman in the Sydney FC goal.

From then on however, Canberra was kept busy in defence with Sydney relentless in their attack.

Keeley Richards got her hands on the ball early with a great save but eventually persistence paid off and Sydney got on the scoreboard with Mackenzie Hawkesby nudging it in from a rebound.

From there, there were plenty more chances from Sydney, who appeared hungry to keep their winning record afloat.

With a few minutes left in the first half, Izzy Foletta saw a chance to equalise and lobbed the ball down to Michele Heyman, who headed it towards the goal. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and half time saw Canberra down by 1.

Paige Satchell subbed in for Hayley Taylor-Young in the second half and made her presence known but Sydney was looking dangerous from the first touch.

There were another two close calls before Cortnee Vine found the back of the net to see Sydney double their lead.

Seven minutes later and with Demi Koulizakis subbed on for Izzy Foletta, Sydney scored again, this time from a Remy Siemsen boot.

Four minutes later and a power hungry attack saw Siemsen bag a brace, putting the Sky Blues up by 4.

Bianca Galic and Rachael Goldstein were subbed on to provide some last minute power from the bench but it wasn’t to be.

Canberra United record their first loss of the season going down 4-0.
