Tough Road Trip for Canberra United

Canberra United goes down to Adelaide United

Canberra United has gone down to Adelaide United 2-1 in Round 8 of the Westfield W-League.

Just seven minutes in Canberra had its first chance on goal with Michelle Heyman taking a shot but it was not to be, and from there, Adelaide stepped up a gear. Despite Clare Hunt and Jessika Nash doing their best to keep them at bay, Adelaide’s Chelsie Dawber put the ball over the line in the 11th minute.

Grace Maher had a great attempt on goal in the 25th minute, and a couple minutes later Bianca Galic sent a shot over the crossbar in her first start for the team in green.

It wasn’t until the dying minutes of the half that Canberra managed to get on the scoresheet, with New Zealand international Paige Satchell using her pace to break the offside trap. Satchell ran onto the ball from Heyman before slotting the ball through the legs of Annalee Grove in the Adelaide United goal.

Canberra United came out strong in the second 45 but so did Adelaide, with Emily Condon managing a curling finish in the 55th minute to put the hosts in front.

Canberra goalkeeper Keeley Richards was confronted with a flurry of attacking chances from Adelaide and did well to divert them all. Paige Satchell then attempted her second goal of the night in the 75th minute, before being subbed off for Hayley Taylor Young.

Despite extra time again providing Canberra with a couple more chances it wasn’t to be and they ended the night with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Adelaide United.
