United young guns given chance to impress Young Matildas coach

Two young Canberra United stars have given the chance to impress Young Matildas head coach Leah Blayney in a one-off match in Sydney this evening (11 March).

United’s Sally James and Hayley Taylor-Young will lead the strong ACT contingent comprising of Junior Matilda Emma Illijoski and Taylor-Young’s Canberra United Academy teammates Sasha Grove and Isobel Davey.

As a new cycle for the Young Matildas age group begins, the Australian women’s national under-20 football team coach will conduct a series of “Elite Matches” for selected players across the country throughout 2020 and 2021.

The first Elite Match will comprise of Newcastle, Sydney & ACT based players, giving them high-level matches for personal development and talent scouting.

The first official stage of qualification through AFC for the next Youth World Cup will take place in March next year with the final stage of qualification being held in February 2022.
